My buddy wants to build a pc to play games...he plays at a low resolution 1280x1024

He has $425 to spend....and no more.....he needs
1. Power Supply
2. Mobo
3. Video Card
4. Ram
5. Hard Drive
6. CPU

It can be AMD or Intel

Gimme your best gaming pc for this small budget....he would like to play the newer games with nice framrates.....does not need the higest settings and a big resolution to play at, as he has a crt monitor.

Thanks for any help...and please post links if you could.

So he has the OS and optical drive and case to be used with this?

I know you wanted links, but if you use my sig as a reference, the main build before OS was $525, and without the case/optical drive would be $465 (inlcuding the shipping). Let me grab some stuff from NewEgg quick and I'll edit my post.

Mobo $55: Newegg.com - Foxconn A74MX-K AM2+/AM2 AMD 740G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - AMD Motherboards
CPU $55: Newegg.com - AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000 Brisbane 2.6GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 65W Dual-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops
GPU $80: Newegg.com - HIS Hightech H467QT512P Radeon HD 4670 IceQ Turbo 512MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards
Hard Drive $55: Newegg.com - Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250410AS 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - Internal Hard Drives
RAM $45: Newegg.com - G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory
or just 2GB stick $21: Newegg.com - WINTEC AMPX 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory
PSU $50: Newegg.com - Thermaltake Purepower W0100RU 500W ATX 12V 2.0 Power Supply - Power Supplies

Comes to either $335 or $357 depending on the RAM you get. Leaves more room if you want to upgrade to an HD 4830 which would be absolutely 100% perfect for his resolution and price. Also has about $30-40 in rebates that I didn't factor.

It will overclock like a bat out of h ell (its a swear word ) given a good cooler but i think that would stretch it over budget. How much is that build I suggested?
