GTX260/280 vs. 9800GTX

I am wanting to upgrade my GPU from my eVga 8800 GTS, but I am wondering how the GTX 260 and 280 compare to the cheaper 9800GTX.

I found some 9800GTX for cheap online, and I heard they are still comparable with the best.

depends on your resolution, really. as a general rule of thumb, a 9800 will be slapped around by a good core 216 260. there really is no comparison between it and a gtx 280.
if you have a g92 gts you will notice a substantial difference between it and a core 216.

the 9800gtx is allmost the same as your 8800gts
you will see very little improvements.

if you go with 260 or 280 or 285
this will be a much greater performance improvement.

here is an example:

just one game compaired here
my 8800gts gave me 60 fps in game A
my newer gtx 280 gives me 200+fps in game A

game A doesnt stress the gpu at all really, its Guildwars.
but that was the performance increase i got when i upgraded.
9800gtx can not touch the 280 as its just a revamped 8800gts

I run 1680x1050 resolution.

not 216mb, 216 shader cores. no, they are not. but the ones that are, will usually be advertised as "core 216".

GTX 260 is a MONSTER of a card.

Like some one said, it will back hand the 9800 GTX, and every other G92 core out there.

Alright - is the 280GTX worth the extra money for the upgrade? Or should I just get myself a nice EVGA GTX 260
