HELP: ERROR (Unmountable boot volume)

I need a help in fixing friend's computer which has a problem of Unnmountable boot volume.

Are there any idea how to fix this problem?
Is it alrite if I just format the system??

my uncle had same problem...formatting didn't help
you can try other memory, IDE cables etc (not sure these things will work)

i'm asking myself how to fix this, also
