I've never really taken much notice of the hard drive temp, however I have just come to realise that "normal" operating temps are between 5-50/55.

It's a Hitachi 80gb (pretty sure its 7200rpm). Over the last couple of days, whether it be on my lap or on a flat surface, after about 20-30 mins, it will reach 50 degrees.

At the moment i'm running a defrag, and I do expect it to run hotter, it is now currently on 55 degrees.

These reading are taken from speedfan 4.35. Are these temps to be expected, or do they seem high?

I've had this laptop for about 3 years with no problems so far, but like I said I've only taken a notice to the hard drive temp just now.

What do you think, and should I be concerned?

EDIT: Defrag still running, temp is up to 57 degrees. Still seems to be climbing.
