Laptop Broken - Hard Drive Recovery

So, Basically, My Laptop Broke down

Now my only concern is the data, i took the hard drive out

Now, i need to get the data off, i was asking to know if i could purchase the following sata cable, so i can connect to my pc and take the dataoff??

You could get a USB hard drive case and make it a portable HDD...

just an example, but it would have more uses then, instead of just in your machine.

Make sure you have a SATA power cable available, if you havent got one available there are Molex to SATA converters they normaly go for £2 or so.

Ok, Basically, I purchase the computer and plugged it all in correctly

Then i boot up and it doesnt detect any new disk?
