Just got my W2 today and plan on a upgrade, A friend is buying my E6850 and 9800 GTX+ and I planned on getting the Q9550 and on the egg it's down to $289 ish (the egg site is down so I can't give exact price) and the Q9650 was around $489 a few days ago but I checked them a little while ago and the Q9650 was down to $333.99.... is the Q9650 at 3.00GHz worth the $50 more than the Q9550 at 2.83GHz I.m going to be ordering in a week or so when my electronic filing direct deposited my money but wondered if I should spend the extra $50 for a little more speed, Not into OC the CPU Just hope EVGA comes down a little more for the GTX280 because THAT is too easy to OC so getting the SSC edition would be foolish. SO my question is, Is it worth the extra $50 for the 0.17GHz

Thanks

The Egg is back, The Q9550 is $282.99 and the Q9650 is $333.99

umm... arent we getting IOU's anyway.. don't get ur hopes up on the w2 my friend...

if we don't get IOU's... gtx280 sli here i come lol

Sounds like the Q9550 is the better choice for you since you aren't wanting the highest clock possible.

I do recommend at least doing a 3.6ghz clock though. Should be as easy as setting FSB to 400 in the bios and not needing to touch any voltages.

The only real difference (other than GHz obviously) is the Q9550 has a locked multi at 8.5, whereas the 9650 is locked at 9. But since you aren't into OCing it then it shouldn't matter and the 9550 would be just fine for you.

Well I guess I may get the 9550 like originally planned but may bump the GTX280 to a 285, Tiger has the XFX for $350 WITHOUT there pita mail in rebates, just hope the prices come down a little more in the next week or two.

Thanks for the advice, I may venture into a little OC eventually but don't want to play with it just yet.
