I was checking out the radeon 9800 pro's at Fry's electronics and they were on sale for like $178 (US) and 75% of the boxed cards on the shelf were returns and marked down, even saw one guy in the return line returning the exact card. Whats up with that? Are they like defective or not worth a darn?

They also had 9600 xt carsds for sale for $148 but unfortunetly were all out except for the 9600xt all-in-wonder cards, not that I could have afforded one darn it.

mmmmm, could be....how people afford a $400 card is beyond me. must be nice to have that kind money. I'm barely staying afloat working full time @ a bit over $9 an hour. eating a lot of hotdogs and mac & cheeze. :D

dude I used to eat once a day everyday for months and it's be a jack in the box burger....lost 40 lbs from malnutrition..anyway..they mighta been returning the card towards 'store credit' to help in purchasing the X800's. I'd say that $175 for the 9800 Pro is a helluva deal and you should try it out. You could always return it if it turned out dead :)

yeah and if i did buy it I would be living in a cardboard box powering my computer with UPS when i could sneak a charge in at some laundry mat

perfect.......all you need is your PC and games...sweet sweet violent games......

lol.....plus i wouldn't be able to feed my cats and they are my babies....can't let them starve, they depend upon me.....ain't good at catchin mice....neither are they.......hahahaha

400 bucks for a video card is nothing when your computer means a lot to you. It's my main source for entertainment including movies, music, porn, games, it's also good for news and weather, keeping in touch with the outisde world, email compared to snail mail, LOL, it's a great learning tool, using the online dictionary, reading up on the tech forums, etc. I don't see why people don't spend that much on their comuters. When I bought my comp, the builder said it was the second fastest comp he has built for a customer, and I think I got a mid-range comp for all I do with it.

It's not like people who buy expensive stuff for their comps actually have money to blow. If a computer means a lot to you, and you are low on money, saving up for a certain upgrade just means that much more.

Um, I'm sorry if I just took over the thread, I noticed you said something about paying 400 bucks for a video card and I just had to rant.

ohGrFreak, u will understand what thy mean when u have to start working for yourself.

at the end of a month, busting your ass at 2 job's.. you'l notice that the money to burn ona 400 buck card just isnt there... well it sorta is there, but if your like me and actually wont to save money for ur future and not live paycheck to paycheck, u'l notice 400 bucks for 1 card just isnt worth it. till u land a lot better job at least.

I know what my computer means to me. I spend 95% of my free time on my computer. I have spent way too much on it leaving myself short for things like food and stuff. Unfortunetly I don't even have enough money to save at the end of each month esp since my wife left me a couple months back. But thats another story. I am happy to have the system that I do have. Maybe when I get my raise at the end of the month I can start saving.
