I am attempting to install vista from the install disk, but keep getting this message.

What can I do? What is it looking for that wouldn't be on the Vista disk?

Wide ribbon cable = PATA/IDE
Narrow cable with plastic plugs = SATA

did your dvd drive come with a disk? If so put that in when it is asking for the driver.

No, I don't have any disk for it. Do I have any other options? Is there a way I can find out what the model of this drive is, so I can find the driver?

Ah I see. Is it essential to know whether my drive is SATA or not? I'd hate to open this thing up but I will if you guys think it's necessary.

The reason i ask is because Vista has some SATA Drivers. But not all. So it could very well be that your system is one of the few that Vista does not have SATA Drivers for so you would have to use 3rd Party Driver install to get it working.

If you can post the make and model of the computer (or motherboard make and model if it is not a prebuilt), we can locate the proper SATA drivers for you, or determine if you actually need them.
