XP question

This is probably an easy question, but here it goes.....
When you log on to win XP, in your user logon icon, there is usually a message such as " You have 2 unread messages" or similar to that.
Where are these messages???....I always thought it was the emails in outlook, but it's not.....any1 know?

it depends what you have set up as your mail client

i use mozilla thunderbird, so it tells me the messages in that

probably the mails from your MSN messenger .NET account

but like Frosty said, it could be any program wich displays it there

On my system, that number does correspond with the number of emails that were unopened the last time I ran Outlook Express. This number will update each time I run Outlook.
