The organization that I work for recently purchased a point of sale system to be installed at the front desk, which already has a PC that is connected to the sole ethernet port. I've been tasked with finding a solution to connecting both computers to the internet. Network security is important to both computers because financial information will pass through each (we considered hooking one of them up to the internet wirelessly, but there were some concerns about security over wireless internet). However, we're a very small organization with a teeny budget, so we have to find a cost-efficient solution.
I've browsed through network switches and I don't know enough to understand what specs are important to compare and ultimately find a secure but cost-efficient solution.
Any suggestions, advice or ideas?
Thank you!
