Well, a new game is coming out (darkfall) and I will have to completely upgrade my computer to be able to run it, however, I'm not sure on what is compatible with what, and what gives the best speed.. hoping for some advice.
Current specs:
  • 1gig ram
  • 2.2 ghz processor
  • Very outdated mobo that only supports ddr1
  • Stock video card (very bad :/)
  • Power supply - 300w max output, I'm assuming I'd need a new one
  • No idea if I'd need new fans or what not

Here is what I've been looking at:
Processors:
-Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 Wolfdale 2.8GHz 3MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops
-Newegg.com AMD Phenom 9600 Agena 2.3GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 2MB L3 Cache Socket AM2+ 95W Quad-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops
Motherboards:
-Newegg.com - ASRock N61P-S AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - AMD Motherboards
-Newegg.com - Intel BOXD945GCLF2 Atom 330 Intel 945GC Mini ITX Motherboard/CPU Combo - Motherboard / CPU / VGA Combo
-Newegg.com - Foxconn A74MX-K AM2+/AM2 AMD 740G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - AMD Motherboards
Video Cards:
-Newegg.com - ASUS EAH4670/DI/512M/A Radeon HD 4670 512MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards
-Newegg.com - POWERCOLOR AX3850 512MD3 Radeon HD 3850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards
Ram:
-Newegg.com - OCZ Platinum 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory

I want to be able to run a up-to-date game without any system lag, however I'm on a budget and need to know what gives me the most 'bang-for-the-buck'.

yeah the ud3 and e5200 would be a great combo. as youve probably heard, intel dominate the cpu market atm.

MOBO: Gygabyte UD3P
CPU: Intel E5200 (This can OC almost as high)
GPU: Same as druid's
RAM: G skill PI Black 800 MHz.

If I was to OC, wouldn't I need more than the stock fan? (I am not very good with computers :p)

Neither of the mobos I had listed were very good? ;/

Some CPU's have good headroom with the stock fan, nonetheless its best to use an aftermarket cooler.

All three boards listed are low-end spectrum tbh.

An e5200, a P43 based chipset, Your RAM, and an HD 4670 ( the HD 3850 rocks, but HD 4670 are slightly faster in most games and have better performance with AA and AF on [which if you like eye-candy, is a good thing])

PSU's:
Check out an Antec Earthwatts 380w or Corsair 450vx
