2x4870 in crossfire will out perform the 4870x2 (single card) everytime there is a 2-5fps differrence between the two usually but there is a difference. You pay a premium to get it all on one card which is why the 4870x2 is more expensive (in the uk atleast)

4870x2 = 400
2x4870CF = 360
gtx295 = 500
2xgtx260 core 216 sli = 520
2xgtx280sli = 560

The price range is quite wide open and the 4870CF is very worthy of a look as its faster then a single 4870x2. I am waiting for the gtx285 to become widely available ofcourse in the UK everything is for a premium and I am only going to be able to justify getting a gtx260 (216) with watercooling I am hoping to get some really high clocks off of it though

You would need 2.5 grande for that though as you would also need I7 to harness the raw power and probably watercooling aswell.

price wise tho crossfire 2 x 4870 1 gb versions is the best way

Only like 25%.. But it costs more than 25% of the price so..

depends on the resolution. in lower res gaming the 1gb ram bandwidth can actually hinder performance making the 512mb better. and the 4870 is faster than the 4850 but same deal with the 1gb vs 512mb. and no on the 4830 part.......

512MB version is about $200, 1GB is $239.
