ATI 9800 Pro or eVGA 6800

Well, then I guess its the 6800, I might even be able to squeeze out enough money to get the GT. But Ill have to see how money goes.

You could always go with a different brand and you will save almost hundreds. I found this card on newegg with 256MB Ram, I never thought that 6800's could be cheaper than 9800 Pros or XT's.

i would go witha known brand, like evga, or any other brand like it. I dont trust those other ones. Get a brand that specialises in gfx cards.

well there are companies that utilize a chipset better... i think that evga's cards will give yo ubetter performance than this jalton card... it has a lot to do with the card itself and the company that builds it because the chipsets are the same so why is one card more expensive than the other?.. if they wud give the same performance then wudnt evga go bankrupt because if its ridiculously high pricess... but eVGA is one of the most succesfull companies out there.. doesnt that say something to you?

because if u buy oit from that comp, ur shur to get something that works, and there policies also make a difference, u get better warrenty prolly. and the board are usually made better. the only thing in common is the chip, but the rest of the board is different. They make it different, so some will has slightly better performance.

well, yes and no. because people know that EVGA is a good brand so tthey would prefer to buy that than any other card, but also no because, yet, some of the cheaper brands are sucking a few people in and therefore stealing EVGA's customers.

i see your point Mission but I've seen both the 9800XT and the 6800 GT in action... id say that the 6800 series is a better card hands down... i personally have never seen a x800 but i hear ppl say that the 6800 out performs the X800 series as well

Yea, the 6800 series is by far the best there is. The X800 Pro offers only half the performance of the 6800GT for the same price. You will get slightly sharper image quality with the X800s, but not enough to justify getting 30 FPS instead of 60FPS.

thats funny cause the doom3 review I read said complete opposite.....they saw more jaggies on floors and railings etc...on the X800 than they did the 6800 and said 'Even though this isn't a test comparison of the two cards...we have to say that the 6800 performed better'

I don't want to get on an ATI bashing rant again, which I feel like doing because I spent so much money on a card that totally sucks, but you're right with doom 3. Far Cry is where there is a slightly, I mean very slightly sharper and more vibrant image produced by the X800 series. Since this is unnotacable though, its not worth getting only 30 FPS instead of 60+ with Nvidia.
