2.8ghz or 2500+

One dude had his up to 3.1GHz!! But yeah he had a damn near vapochill setup. Anyway, I would say the best option is a 35w 2400+XP-M cooler temps...up until you start overclocking....already unlocked....you can easily get it to be comparable with that 2.8c

You have to remember, it's about the Price/performance ratio of the chips. The XP 3200+ and the 2.8c are the same price, yet the 2.8c performs better.

yeah or you could do like I said and pay $89 for the 35w 2400+ XP-M and overclock it to 3200+ speeds and beyond.....well then you're paying HALF as much as that 2.8c intel chip and getting same speeds.....

MY main point is...is that Gigahertz is no longer a method of validating the 'greatness' of a chip...hence why Intel charges so damn much and has to exclaim like OOOH LOOK WE GOT 3.4GHz! Its more of a marketing ploy.....it used to be that gigahertz determined how fast your system was, but now its one part of many.....like I said in my first damn post.....35w 2400+ XP-M or 2500+ XP....not only are you gonna pay half as much but you'll get speeds damn near 2.8GHz, plus like I said AMD can do more per instruction that intel..again hence why they gotta balloon up their ads with 3.4GHZ!!!!!! WOWWWWW!!!!!

EDIT: Yeah the 2.8 barely outperforms the 3200+ not to mention its got 600MHz over it......Intel can never compare an AMD together at the same MHz cause AMD would smother Intel and people would be looking at intel like 'oooh well....I thought they were better?' thats the whole point of the XP series is that its roughly the equivelant of a 3.2GHz intel although yeah obviously its not QUITE that, but I would only attribute that to a higher FSB and RAM.
 
yeah i know that. I would get the 2500+ with the NF7-S BUT i already have the P4 motherboard....so it'll actually be the same price. get it?? so for the P4, i only have to pay for the processor, but for the AMD, i have to pay for the Motherboard and the processor... which equals the same price
 
xxkrnxstylezxx, I have a Prescott (I think; don't know where it says), and the highest it ever runs is like 49 C, of couse it's practically idle 'cause I'm STILL WATINING FOR MY OS!!!!!!
 
oo no prescott for me...so i think the 2.8ghz would be the best...i think i'll get that....when would be the best time to buy it?? would newegg or some other stores sell computer components cheaper during Thanksgiving?? or even Christmas (dunno if i can wait that long)

It's about the price/performance these days. Sure the Athlon XP have potentiol, but it wasn't even able to beat the Northwood. Thats why AMD abandon it all together and made way for the Sempron and Athlon 64.

If you're going intel, get the 2.8c.

Snap....didn't realize you already had the P4 board =/...yeah well in YOUR case then yeah might as well just get the P4 chip.

......yeah right man......look at those tests......the 3200+ performed well and even OUTPERFORMED the 2.8 on the quake 3 arena demo NV15demo at the bottom...I've never followed intel so I don't know which one the northwood is...but its the simple fact you get more performance out of the AMD chips per hertz than you do with Intel. Again the AMD had lower MHz but could still stand up to the competition. They didn't 'abandon' the XP series...its the simple fact it was time to make way for a new architecture and get the best performance out of 2GHz opposed to stupid ass intel having to go to the market and say 'Well.....ummm...their 2GHz is a lower number than our 4GHz!' but a 2GHz 64 would wipe the street clean with a 4GHz pentium. Simple as that.
