After talking to my bro-in-law who is a programmer and BIG TIME gamer, I've decided to go with a fast dual core processor over a quad b/c he said 95% of software can't use quad anyway.

Please give me your thoughts on the compatibility of this setup, specifically, if anything seems like a bottle neck or overkill related to each other. Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks.

Use: casual gaming (For the PC, I like mostly RPG games such as Oblivion), internet, home office with the ability to get a 2nd GTX 280 vid card in the future

Wait for saltynay or someone to confirm it but I think they are going to say you should get DDR2 RAM, an E8400 instead of the E8600, the GTX 260 instead of the GTX 280 and a different PSU.

So the RAM listed is overkill but the processor and vid card are very close? If the RAM is overkill, should I get a cheaper mobo as well?

If you're going to be grabbing DDR3 RAM, you might as well go for an i7 processor/mobo combination.

If you want to stick with the 775, grab the 8400. The 8600 is basically the same thing except the multiplier is higher, I believe. Waste of money. Also, if you're sticking with the 775, grab DDR2. They have some nice DDR2 800 speed ram on newegg.

As for the PSU, grab this one:

Newegg.com - CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply - Power Supplies

I haven't heard much good about that Coolmax PSU.

Cool, thanks man. So what mobo should I get then for DDR2 and the stuff listed above? The mobo I listed supports DDR3.

these stuff are around same price as what you chose in first post, but more performance

Core i7 920 + EVGA 132-BL-E758-A1 LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard

same price
G.SKILL 3GB (3 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory
+50 more for double capacity
G.SKILL 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory

If you want to save some money, go ahead and stay with LGA 775 and dual core

LGA 1366 is the future

Just noticed your software as well. You will need 64bit to use that much RAM, and have you tried openoffice? It's about 95% replacement for the entire office suite, better in some respects and is also free and opensource.
