Hey guys, well I got all my parts in and got everything together, here is the thread if you need to see the parts..

http://www.techist.com/forums/f75/advice-build-194940/

I was running Prime95 ad got an error, I checked the CPU temp using SIW.exe and it was 54°C!! Everything is installed right, any ideas on why? I'm using the same case and case fan as I was with my old computer.

You were running Prime95.. that puts a lot of stress on your machine, making it work harder, thus producing more heat.. Check your temps without running Prime95, under load and on idle.. and use a different temperature monitoring software, such as CoreTemp. If the temps are within an acceptable range when running programs such as games and anything else you like then you are fine. If you use a blow torch on the CPU it will get hot... but if you never plan on using a blow torch on it then don't worry about what it will do if you use one on it.

Technically my temperatures are high on my non-game computer.. but I don't run many high-load applications, just basic desktop computing, so I have nothing to worry about.

Be sure your case has adequate ventilation and airflow.. that will really hurt your temps, especially if you are running a hot GPU, and or overclocking.

Also, be sure your heatsink is installed properly and tightly. It must have enough thermal paste applied to it as well. And a dumb thing I once did.. I didn't take off the plastic sticker cover on the heatsink.. better not to rush, lol :|

AMD processors have been known to run hot.. with the exception of 64s and maybe the newer models.. I'm an Intel person myself..

How long were you running Prime95? And what Error did you receive?

It's at 46° now. The error message I got was this..

[Wed Jan 07 07:57:50 2009]
FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4
Hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file.

That was only running it for about 5 minutes, I ran it again for about an hour and it was fine.

I could use better case ventilation, I'm working on that now, The heatsink is on tight, and I used the stock HSF, along with the stock paste they put on there, I ordered an aftermarket cooler, and wasn't paying attention I guess and ordered the wrong one, so I'm ordering another one.

What would be the best one for my 9850?

A Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme (TRUE) is a good CPU heatsink.. although I am sure that they have made better ones since I last did reasearch on the subject.. I now use Liquid Cooling..

Stock thermal compound can be really really bad stuff.. I would recommend browsing the stickie below for better thermal compound.

These Stickies/Threads should help some.

If you are interested I have a never before used "Sunbeam CR-CCTF 120mm "Core Contact Freezer" I need to sell.

Yeah, I have some mx-2 paste, i was just waiting until I got another hsf. How much do you want for it?

Not overclocking, I will once I get a better HSF, but i wasn't going to with the stock cooler
