Just upgraded CPU, having crashes

i know for sure that there is no support for 45nm qauds on the 680i boards, but you have a dual core so you might be able to get away with a bios update.

Just cleared CMOS and updated BIOS. Not sure how far behind my BIOS was. The old system bios was 9/13/07, didn't catch the bios version :X Wasn't thinking of it.

Sorry for the wall of text, just thought something may be relevant.

I did some further research on the 45 nm deal. I read this article which was pretty interesting: Details on Intel's Forthcoming 45 nm Manufacturing Technology | Hardware Secrets

The first CPU generation using the new 45-nm manufacturing process is called Penryn.

Penryn isn't the codename of a specific processor, but the codename of the 45 nm core that will be used by mobile, desktop and server CPUs.

and from EVGAs p33 bios update

Added support for new Penryn dual core CPUs

So is any core with 45-nm manufacturing considered a Penryn core? If so that may explain my problem and hopefully the P33 bios update would fix it.

yes 45nm is called penryn core, just dont put a penryn quad core in there. get that bios and all will be good. happy gaming.

Just wanted to update this:

Since I updated the BIOS on my 680i Mobo I have not had a single computer crash! So good news there. Much thanks to everyone who offered advice in this thread.

If anyone else gets a Penryn dual core for 680i update your BIOS :X

I'd recommend avoiding the quad cores since that bios update mentions ONLY dual cores and not quad cores
