Is a sound card worth it?

I remember when a normal Soundblaster was worth something, lol. Now it seems to be all about the X-Fi.

That looks like a brilliant card at an amazing price but I reside in the UK. Is there any way of getting the same sort of price but with availability to the UK?

I have looked on the UK part of their website but they didn't have the same card in their refurbished section, so I will probably go for the X-fi xtreme gamer.

I would avoid refurbed gear too. That is basically a card that went bad on someone and got RMA'd then they fixed it to resell it. I think the Xtreme Gamer would be a great choice.

I hold my stand against any creative or auzentech based cards, unless you're running XP. Then they're fantastic cards.
Vista driver support and general performance just suck. Mostly vista's fault. x64 in particular. my vote goes for the Asus Xonar D2 or D2X depending on budget.

What about HT Omega?? I heard people say they were a lot better than Xi-fi, even the Xtreme Gamer. I'm planning to get one with my dad's Sont DGR-2100 home theater system.
