i have a samsung HD2493 HM monitor with a resoultion of 1920x1200 and my SLI 8800 GT's run about 40 FPS on ALL high with crysis NO AA..

so the core 216 would be better with SLI than crossfire 2x4870's?

cause i am upgrading in a few weeks....what about the core 240?

Give me 1 of your 8800GT's Folding farm! :D haha

As for the question, you'd be better of with GTX Core 216's SLI because Crysis is biased towards nVidia cards (since they helped with Crysis) so go with those..

There's no Core 240 just a GTX 280 (which has 240 Stream CPUs)

yeh I am pretty sure it's the gtx 260 216 that takes over in Crysis against the 4870 1gb, but either way they are close, if you wana spend less the 4870 1gb if your looking for a bigger badder (future SLI) system then the GTX 260 216

its really about even, besides crysis its really mixed winners usually not by many frames, but generally since most people want to run crysis, the core 216's are better choices(price aside). a 4870 here in Australia costs about 450 for the 1gb version and the core 216 even more. which is about doubel what use pay in usa, doesnt make sense.

Just ordered the Core 216 along with the rest of my build (I7 TO THE MAX). Weird, I had been planning on getting the 4870 for a few weeks now and changed my mind this week.

you, me, both I'm dead set on a Asus Rampage Extreme + i7 920 combo now I'm gonna wait it out a little bit longer and see what becomes of the prices of the GTX 260 216 and 4870 1gb :D as it stands now I know the best GTX 260 216 put goes for $249 after a nice $30 MIR not too shabby

yeh Crysis FTW I just dl'd Far Cry 2 and wanna see how it is but i'm too tired now :|

but with the 4870 1gb version at $199, why not go for that?

EDIT: noticed that its the 512mb version for 199, my mistake.

The 4870 512 at $199 is a great deal, and so is the 1gb version for $225 (after rebate). Plus, it's got a nice non-reference cooler. But, I figured performance-wise, the C216 and 4870 so close. Plus the C216 usually does a tad better in benchmarks with the exception of a few titles, runs cooler, less prone to driver issues, and great to pair with a second in the future.

I don't really know how much I'll notice for the first few weeks though, I think I'll just be losing it because I haven't had a PC capable of anything more than slow internet for almost a whole year now.

true, but generally games like crossfire better than core 216, and sli is more prone to driver issues or poor performance then crossfire. but for single card it really goes either way.
runs hotter? meh, turn to fan speed up 5% and temps drop drastically, i mean like 15 degrees. (with stock cooler). so the non reference is probably fine anyway.
