Yeah, that stuff meets under budget, but he doesn't need to spend more on a video card than the HD 4670, he's not going to be doing any heavy graphics stuff in the first place. Also, the 9300 is good, but about 100 bucks more than the 6600, which is still a good processor for what he's using it for, and 100 bucks is 100 bucks.

I definitely don't agree with your RAM choice... DDR2 900 for that cost? The Kingston HyperX I suggested is only 2 bucks more, and it's 1066 with good CAS.

The case, PSU, and HDD you picked out are good though. More power is always nice, and I've heard good things about the 640gb WD, even though the Seagate is a bit cheaper. Kudos to those.

my ram has better timings.
the q9300 is worth the $100 more over the q6600. the q9300 is 45nm has sse4 and runs at higher fsb.

philbar. my only needs are for business and blazing. performance. I think ill go with the other guys idea.

To each their own, I suppose. At the cost of the 9300, I would recommend the i7 920, but since the mobo and ram would be more expensive...meh.

An i7 build will totally blow his budget. The Q9300 is a faster processor than the Q6600 and it stays within the budget, so might as well get the best bang for your buck. Go with Philbar's build.

Any way to shave price and not performance?
Any recommendations?

Fair enough. I'm not saying it isn't a good processor for the money, I was just being thrifty ol' me, haha. And the i7 would definitely blow his budget, I know.

Beckman, the 9300 is a good idea to grab, it won't get outdated as fast. As for the memory, either the HyperX I mentioned or the PI Black would be good, and about the same cost. The PI does have slightly better timings, so maybe you could go with that.
