detecting ide drives

Just got a new dvd burner. Its a Pioneer DVR 116d. I am replacing an old Lite- On dvd rom / cd burner.I put it in according to instructions, and my computer just says "DETECTING IDE DRIVES" and nothing happens...does this mean that the new burner is DOA? thanks for your input.:conf

Have you installed the drivers for it?

no...how do i do that? I checked Pioneers website...cant find them.

Go to Device Manager,find your device, right click on it and select install or update driver.

Yeah I cant do that because with the new dvd burner in, the computer wont boot,it
just says 'DETECTING IDE DRIVES'

Try in Safe Mode.
