Major boot problem, HP Pavilion dv9548us

This is a really weird problem that just started for me this morning...I turn my computer on and the first thing I see is a screen full of greenish vertical lines. A couple seconds later, the whole screen started fading to white, and a few seconds after that, it VERY slowly starts to fade to black. Eventually, the whole screen becomes black and nothing else happens...and this point it doesnt sound like anything is running on my laptop...is this a major hardware problem or can I fix this some other way?

I have a HP Pavilion dv9548us laptop. Please help!

That doesn't sound good.

Could be any number of problems really, and since it's a laptop it will be next to impossible to test things.

Does it have a warranty?

My warranty has expired but I've only had the computer for a little over a year. Is there anything involving the hardware that I could easily fix myself or will it need to be brought in to a professional to get fixed?

If its only a little over a year, call up HP and see if they'll give you a grace period or not.
