I haven't built a box since my current one in 2001, so I'm a little out of date. So could someone at least tell me if all this stuff will work together, I believe it will. I just want a decent box, that will run about the same as my laptop and plays games decently on my new 24" LCD.

Right now I have
P4 2.6GHz Northwood
Asus P4P800
1.5Gb of DDR400
128Mb 6600GT AGP 8X

I would be keeping my current SATA hard drives for now until I can get some more $$$. I really didn't want to spend more than $300, and would have been good, but my PSU just died after 8 years. So now it's about $350 after rebates, which is good to me.

My laptop has 4GB DDR2667, T7500, so I'm thinking this will at least match it.

Thanks
Davey

You did really very well for a first timer I am amazed the only thing that I can think about is considering the upgrades above and try looking at the 4830's I am not entirely sure as I am in the UK I am not an overt regular on newegg but you maybe able to save some pennies and gain some performance there.

Also the psu is way way way overboard 500W should be what your looking at. If your a bit anxious just like any newbie then heres the guide to psu's

Note benet most new users don't do aswell as this so your step above the rest normally its all no, no, no lol

Ok, so help me, because I'm not too good with this stuff. You're saying that the DDR2 800 will be better because of the timings, compared to the DDR2 1066?

Also, if I said I'd like to buy 2 more sticks sometime next year and get a quad core, would it change your statement? I'm just guessing becasue since I chose an 800Mhz proc now and 1066Mhz ram?

I don't know what my feeling is towards them... I look at it as getting cash back. I just used the live.com 30% off anything bought with PayPal on Ebay to get my 24" LCD with $110 cash back. I have to wait 60 days, but I think it was worth it.

Thanks
Davey

Attractive price on the 3850 ;)

Don't expect it to handle games well on a 24" monitor though. You'd have to lower the resolution to something like 1440x900 or lower to max out games.
