with all the hard drive question these days... thought I will bring mine up too

I remember couple days ago, Das BanHammer mentioned placing os and programs on different physical drives will yield better performance

so I've got a 250gb and a wd 640gb
now we already know that the 640 is the faster drive

so should I

a) place windows on the 640gb and install programs/games on 250gb

b) place windows on 250gb and install programs/games on 640gb

c) run windows and programs off 640gb, cause that thing is blazing fast either way

I would put Windows on the 250 and your programs and data on the 640. This is mostly because of drive size.

You can set Windows to load the kernel into RAM (I know you can with XP) so that it is pretty much set to run. This sets you up to have the faster access to your programs and data. If your computer needs to access Windows, it can do so without disrupting your access to the other drive.

I currently have Windows on an 80 gig drive, and most everything else on a sparate 250. I have another 250 on the way on which I will Ghost my Windows installation on and pull the 80 for a spare. I was just given a 200 gig and it will become a data drive, leaving my programs on the other drive.

I will probably set up my OS drive as a dual-boot with Linux or Vista.
