I will be building a new pc soon. I want to set up a raid 0 for performance increase. I have been fiddling with computers for around the past 6 years. I'm no expert.

This build will be the first time I set up a raid. I will be purchasing 2 identical disks. I was reading that its safer to have the raid controller separate from the motherboard because if the mobo goes bad for whatever reason then you can't get any data. What are you opinions?

Should I stay with the controller on the motherboard or should I buy a pci controller?

Also is there anything else I should know before setting up a raid?

Thanks

I have not had any issues with mb raid controllers. I would not run a raid0 for your important data. It is good for OS and applications but if one drive fails all data is lost. I like having a seperate data disk or 3 disks in a raid5 for my data. With periodic backups as well.

Right, I usually throw my important data on another drive and dvds when backups are needed. So that won't be a big change for me keeping only the recoverable data on my raid.
