Motherboard and memory question

I am looking to upgrade my motherboard and was wondering if the memory standard says DDR3 can I still use DDR2?

No they are physically different therefore not backwards compatible. There are a couple of boards which have both DDR3 and DDR2 slots but you lose performance and pay a premium for them so its better to just flat out decide. You will get a good performance boost by getting a p45 board or 700 series (so you can sli your current cards) with an intel cpu it will kill your current pc.

I know that DDR3 is expensive is it worth the upgrade over DDR2?

IMO no its not, but the swap to intel from your pc is and also if your using vista and extra 2gb is needed.
