Maybe some wishlist, My brother really wants one, and hes thinking spending around 2-3thousand dollars.

With only one 4870
and
6gb ram

Thank you so much

If he's gonna spend so much why only a 4870? Especially if its i7. Its supposed to really take advantage of sli and xfire (someone correct me if i'm wrong here)

GTX 260 (216 Core) Tri-sli with DDR3 1600mhz 6GB Ram is possible with the budget a budget of $3000.

i wouldnt go as far a three way, for the simple fact that it doesnt help out too much to add a 3rd card until you get to real high res (1920x1200 or more)... but it could easily be done on a $3k budget

tri sli only seems to yield results in crysis... at high res.. but thats about it.. thats why i'm getting it!! i love me some crysis :)

i'll be doing dx10 testing really soon

If he only wants one 4870 he can buy me one too with that amount of cash. Put in a good word ;)

If he thinks thats a bad idea (cant see why anyone would though) think about getting 2 gtx260s or an hd4870x2 and getting a nice high res screen with it - depending on what he already has...? As for the the cpu, the 920 is the best deal, as the others are way overpriced.

ok here's what i'd do if i were you

Newegg.com - Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops - 299.99

Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-EX58-DS4 LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards - 244.99

Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100243TXSR Radeon HD 4870 512MB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards - 249.99 (229.99 after MIR)

Newegg.com - G.SKILL 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory - 239.99

Newegg.com - CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply - Power Supplies - 119.99 (99.99 after MIR)

2x Newegg.com - Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3500320AS 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - Internal Hard Drives - 64.99 (x2 = 129.98)

Newegg.com - LG Black 22X (CAV) DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 16X DVD+R DL 22X (CAV) DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA 22X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe - CD / DVD Burners - 23.99

Newegg.com - Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio 7.1 Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI Interface Sound Card - Sound Cards - 49.99

= $1118.92 before MIR
= $1078.92 after MIR

You'll also want a case (but i'll leave that up to you, because you probably won't like what i will)... I would, however, add a second HD 4870 (because its cheaper than getting a single 4870X2) if you've got the money

oh yeah... you also need a CPU cooler... there are a bunch of coolers with 1366 brackets now... i know scythe, noctua, Tt, coolermaster, ocz and a bunch of others have brackets available now, but there are very few specifically designed for 1366

also, depending on what case you get, you'll probably want to whack in a bunch of extra fans... these are good ones -> Newegg.com - Scythe SY1225SL12SH 120mm "Slipstream" Case Fan - Case Fans

it feels like i missed something, but i cant figure out what... whatever... if i did, either ask me, or im sure someone else will chime in with an answer

EDIT: you could always go with this instead of the other mobo -> Newegg.com - Foxconn Renaissance LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards for 277.99

then you could grab 1 or 2 of these Newegg.com - EVGA 896-P3-1265-AR GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 896MB 448-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards (for 247.99 each)

actually... you know what.. screw the DS4... Foxconn Renaissance FTW!

with the renaissance and 4870, it'll be $1111.92 after MIR (1341.91 with dual 4870s), and with the Core 216s, it'll cost $1149.92 with a single card or $1397.91 with an SLI config
