Hey all,

My laptop just started acting up this morning. I was opening an app when it locked up and turned off. I rebooted and got the error:
"UNMOUNTABLE BOOT VOLUME".
I ran chkdsk /r and fixed it. When I loaded up windows and tried to open the same app I got some file errors and the program wouldn't open.

So I uninstalled and attempted to reinstall the program. Everytime it got to a certain file the installation would fail.

So I reformatted and installed all my drivers. I ran the installation again and got the same error, but at a different percentage than before. It was stopping on a different file this time. I tried several times and it failed at the same file everytime before I gave up.

I'm running a Dell XPS M1710
Doucore proc 1.8
Geforce 7900 gtx
60g hd
Windows xp
2g ram

Thanks in advance for any help!!

Francis

Forgive me, I'm a bit of a newb, as my title implies.

How would I recreate the file?

backup up your data and try getting a replacement for that hdd. Once you start getting bad sectors it means the drive is failing and it will only get worse over time.

Thanks for the help guys. I really appreciate it. I think I'll just get a new drive.
