Hey, I was wondering if this is a good build for a computer. I want this to be a good gaming computer, enough for the latest games out there (COD4, Left 4 Dead, etc).

CPU - Intel Pentium E5200 Wolfdale 2.5GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80571E5200

Motherboard - ASUS P5Q SE PLUS LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard

Hard Drive - Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3500320AS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

Graphics Card - EVGA 512-P3-N954-TR GeForce 9500 GT 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card

Memory - G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory

Power Supply - OCZ StealthXStream OCZ500SXS 500W ATX12V / EPS12V Active PFC Power Supply

I know I don't have a sound card or cd/dvd drive but I can get that if needed. I just want to know if this set up is good enough and if the components will work good with one another and not have any malfunctions. Any tips/suggestions will be appreciated. It would be great if anyone can give me a better build for around $400 if necessary. Thank you.

i'd do something like this to get the best price vs performance in your range

Newegg.com - Rosewill RP500-2 500W ATX12V v2.01 Power Supply - Power Supplies

Newegg.com - Intel Pentium E5200 Wolfdale 2.5GHz 2MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops

Newegg.com - Open Box: ASUS P5K SE EPU LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard

Newegg.com - Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3500320AS 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - Internal Hard Drives

Newegg.com - G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory

Newegg.com - Open Box: MSI R4850-512M Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card

or

Newegg.com - EVGA 512-P3-N971-TR GeForce 9800 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

= $417.20 with HD 4850 or $397.20 with 9800GT

its pretty much the same as what you've got with a few minor changes... the RAM has tighter timings and is the same price, the PSU is cheaper, but still good quality, the mobo is P35 based, which will work well for you, unless you wanna do some SERIOUS overclocking... also, either the 4850 or the 9800gt will give you alot better performance in the games you mentioned...

you've got onboard sound, but you might wanna grab this -> Newegg.com - SAMSUNG Black 20X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 16X DVD+R DL 20X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA 20X DVD Burner with LightScribe - CD / DVD Burners for $23.99

also, you might want a case to put that all in, unless you've got something lying around you can use, this would be a good choice -> Newegg.com - Antec Three Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Computer Cases for only $49.95... a nice clean looking and good performing case

altogether that'll be either $471.14 with the 9800GT or 491.14 with the HD 4850... although you can get by without a case or DVD burner for a while (you can just use old OEM junk until you need new gear)

Oh yeah, I have a Windows XP disc at home. Thanks I'll be checking out the stuff you guys mentioned. One question, does it matter what power supply i get, because some people tell me that I should get a stronger one.

PS- Im also wondering if this is a good package, performance and price. Instead of the Intel cpu, Im deciding on an AMD one. Does this affect what graphics card, motherboard and/or memory i use?

Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more!

Terrible terrible brand for power supplies.

Take a look at the offerings by

PC Power and Cooling
Antec
Seasonic
Corsair
OCZ

For your rig a 500W should be PLENTY!

Oh alright, I'll change that then. Does it matter what cpu I buy, such as the Intel Bong mentioned or the AMD one I mentioned? I just want to make sure before I order anything. Also does anything affect anything else? Like does the hard drive affect the ram? or does the graphics card affect the ram? Im new to this and don't really know much. Thanks the help
