Okay, I thought i could afford an i7 920 rig, but it's just a tad bit too much for my budget right now, so I decided to go with a cheaper build. This is my first build so I'm not too sure if all of my prospect components are compatible with each other.

This is what i would like to put in it:

MOBO:
EVGA 750i ftw or EVGA 780i (decisions, decisions.... help me pls)

CPU:

Q6600

RAM:
OCZ Reaper HPC Edition (2 x 2GB) DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
Cas Latency: 4
Timing: 4-4-4-15
Voltage: 2.1V
or
G.SKILL (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
Cas Latency: 5
Timing: 5-5-5-15
Volatage: 1.8V-1.9V

I don't know much about CAS latency, voltage, or timing so your thoughts here could help a lot.

PSU:
PC Power, and Cooling S75QB 750W
or
Corsair CMPSU-750TX 750W

Would 750 watts be enough for supporting (2x) gtx260 GPU's?

HARD DRIVE:
(2x) WD Velociraptor 150GB SATA
and a WD Caviar Black 1TB

GPU:
(2x) gtx260 core 216

CHASSIS:
Thermaltake Spedo VI90001 W2Z
or
Cooler Master HAF

I'm going with a full tower just to leave room for future upgrades

All your help would be most appreciated and I will be forever grateful :)

If you gave up some stuff that you don't need, you would afford an i7. And I would get a Cosmos S 1100 case, it's godlike.

Perhaps maybe get a faster CPU. OCZ ram has better timings at the same speed so its faster. Either of those PSU's are rock solid and will run the 2 cards just fine.

if you dump the velociraptors, and get some 320GB platter HD's, you can probably squeeze in an i7.

Oh I know it's quite pricey but I plan on getting just the WD 1TB for now, then getting the 2 velociraptors in the near future since they're like $250 CAD each.
And I'm only getting 1 gtx260 core 216 for now

Same reply above for the velociraptor issue.
Which CPU would be good though? I've been reading a lot of threads and the Q6600 seems to be a popular choice for OC'ing (I've never OC'ed before so I don't want to fry a high end CPU)

The higher end cpu they harder it will be to fry it.

Q6600 is good overclocker at 3.0 ghz, and thats a nice speed for anyone

That makes sense.... Would the Q9550 be better then?? (OC'ing wise?)
I also noticed there's a Q9550 OEM version and it's significantly more expensive than the normal one. What's the difference between the two?

Before even considering getting a Q9550, I'd get a i7 920. They're inarguably better than a Q9550 (and a bit cheaper), and even beat the high-end $1400 QX9770 in most benchmarks.

Only, it'll make for a more expensive mobo and RAM. Better system though.
