Right now I'm using this RAM: 2x1gb 800MHz PC6400 with 4-4-4-12 timings. I am looking at buying these sticks: 2x2gb 1066MHz PC2 8500 with 5-5-5-18 timings. Before I do, I have several questions.

I know running them both simultaneously would mean the 1066 would run at 800. Would the 4-4-4-12 timings run at 5-5-5-18?

Do I need to tweak the 1066 so it actually runs at 1066, or are they plug and play at 1066?

Would it be better to run only the 2x2gb at 1066 or run all 6gb at 800?

Thanks!

I'd run 4 gigs at 1066, anything more would be overkill and not be needed IMHO unless your running solid works and 3D rendering type stuff. with 4 you won't run short on the Ram.

The main problem besides seeing the obvious backclock of the 1066 to the slower 800 speed is the drastic difference in timings! That's more of a concern while the 1066 speed is a jump over the PC2-7200 DDR2 900 memory speed. Two speeds faster and timings!

The one thing in common between both sets however is that they run at 2.1v as seen in the specification on the Corsair dimms at Newegg.com - CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory
