This is my first time building my own PC. I went to the store for parts and this is what the sales associate recommended. The PC will be used for movies, music, graphic design and watching TV. I'm not really too interested in playing games. Suggestions are appreciated!

keep in mind I would be paying retail for these items... is there anything better for the money with these components?

P.S. Any recommendations for a good 24" monitor?

I can't believe you didn't notice your links say "Page Not Found" right on them. Haha, might want to re-try ;)

It's a very good PC if you're not going to be using it for gaming. If you're interested in entertainment then I would get a blu-ray player, funded by down-grading your PSU and CPU. Your PSU is way too powerful - I've got a 350watt and a similar to you. Also, consider a Q6600 for your CPU.

I've got a Hannspree Verona JM01-22E1 22" screen and that's brilliant so unless you are dead set on a 24" then that's a possibility.

Other than that it's a very nice PC!

i would go with the corsair 650 or 750w PSU, better brand and efficiency than ultra.
also would go with a 4850. they are a little more than the card you selected, but you can crossfire them at a later date. you cant with an nvidia card and that mobo.
q9550 is quite a bit better than a q6600, id stick with that. i have an acer x243w that i absolutely love. i got it for under 250 (what a steal!) there will be some GOOD monitor deals come friday.

thanks for the replies, just came across this in new egg, looks to be a new cpu, would the i7 be better than the quad? its a bit cheaper

Newegg.com - Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 Quad-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops

no. the i7 is a new size of cpu, and the system that needs to go around it is cost prohibitive... so unless money is no problem, just stick with the quadcore, just downgrade it to the q6600. there isnt that much optimized to multithreading anyways at this time.
