Good Afternoon

I have a 40GB Seagate Seires 5 IDE drive which I have been using in a caddy attached to my PC via USB. Windows now can't access the drive or run any disc checking etc as it reports the drive having a currupted and unreadable directory.

The disc appears in my computer as drive G but drive size and free space etc are not reported (although when right clicking and selecting properties it states used space and free space all as 0 bytes. Is there any other way of trying to recover data from this drive.

My PC is an Acer Small Form Factor running Vista SP1.

Thanks

It could be the caddy itself is shot. The best way to test the drive would be to hook it up directly to a computer and see if it can be read.

The drive could be dead and the computer is registering the fact that the caddy is plugged it. Have you tried unplugging the USB and hooking it up to a different port, or a different computer?
