No that doesnt matter. If you are mixing like you are the issue comes in with your BIOS. When you connect the SATA Drive that is taking boot priority. I am guessing that you have Windows installed on teh IDE right?
You have to change the boot order to the IDE drive and allow for the IDE hard drive to be selected first in the boot order. Once you hook up the SATA Drive it is taking the boot priority away from the IDE drive which is what is causing your boot issues.
