I used GParted with Linux to create some space for it, I shrunk the Windows partition, took off 10gb and when I tried to install Ubuntu it didn't work, so how can I get back the space I left for Linux? Can I go back to GParted and resize the partition and make it bigger?

it doesn't sound to me like he wants to lose all the data on the 1st partition, but wants one big partition instead of two NTFS partitions

PartitionMagic would be the best option as GParted can leave leftover space unformatted with no file system when reverting back. Happened to me.

Well, you DO have to select a file system when formatting. Otherwise, yes, this will happen. And doesn't Partition Magic have a hefty cost to the free GParted? ;)
