upgrading gaming pc

ive had my current computer for a while now, its time to upgrade and just looking for an outside opinion.

what im going to keep

psu 750w
hdds- 2x 500gb
optical drive - random dvdrw
case - mid tower "see here" ive added a 120mm fan to the back and 2 80mm to the front along with a cpu cooler

what im going to replace

Mobo - ASUS P5ND2-SLI
Ram - 2gig pc 5400
CPU - pent D 3.15ghz
Video - xfx 7950gt

budget is between 900-1000

idea 1

so any recommendations
and im currently on XP i think its time to move to vista 64 because ill prolly add more ram later on etc..

im not to sure, pick out the best stuff u can for 1000 tops maybe including vista if thats needed

edit - what about sli on 2 older cards ie: 9800 or lower

that's the core 216 version isint it? and a 790i ultras have their problems.my dad has one and it is not stable it keeps locking up, we have ocz platinum edition 6gb i would go with a 780i sli board that uses ddr2 ram. it's cheaper than ddr3

spend the 380 that you would spend on the 2 9800's and see if you could find a gtx 280, if not go with a gtx260 core 216. and sli later.
