Newegg.com - EVGA 896-P3-1260-AR GeForce GTX 260 896MB 448-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

How about that for a good card. Newer than the GX2 and will kill crysis at 1680. Plus you get free far cry 2 and $40 mail in rebate
Looks like a great deal to me

but is it better than the GX2

how far is this "future"?
will newer, better, more efficient cards come out in the "future"?

ok forget the future, what is the best card overall

4870 single, GTX 260, or the 9800GX2

its 896MB...

But yes they are better than a 9800GX2 which would perform like a 9800GTX in most games...

so im able to run crysis in atleast 1440x900 possibly 1680 res in full graphics, everything maxed with 16x AA and the other 16x thingy

i also forgot to mention that the power supply, the 850 one from bestbuy will only cost me about $150 if not $100, i have a friend that works at BB and he gets good discounts, a lot of the times 50% off if not more

The only reason to buy a GX2 at this point in time is if you want to rack up points folding@home.

i dont see why the 260 would be better than the 9800GX2 though, here are the specs

GTX 260 |||| 9800GX2

Core clock: 576MHz |||| 600MHz
Stream Processors: 192 processing cores |||| 256
Memory Clock: 2000MHz (effective) |||| 2000MHz
Memory Size: 896MB |||| 1GB
Memory Interface: 448-bit |||| 512-bit
Memory Type: GDDR3 |||| GDDR3
RAMDAC: 400 MHz |||| 400MHz
Max Resolution: 2560 x 1600 |||| 2560 x 1600
SLI Supported: Yes |||| Yes
Cooler: With Fan |||| With Fan
Power Connector: 2 x 6 Pin |||| 6 pin / 8 pin
Dual-Link DVI Supported: Yes |||| yes
HDCP Ready: Yes |||| yes

the 9800GX2 like beats it in almost everything or am i missing something here ?

You have to consider sheer performance... and in most games you won't recognize the second GPU... which is where most of the other specs are coming from

256bit x 2 = gx2's 512mb interface
same with RAM size, 512mb x 2= 1gb RAM (its not really a 1gb Card)

so im able to run crysis in atleast 1440x900 possibly 1680 res in full graphics, everything maxed with 16x AA and the other 16x thingy

i also forgot to mention that the power supply, the 850 one from bestbuy will only cost me about $150 if not $100, i have a friend that works at BB and he gets good discounts, a lot of the times 50% off if not more

NO WAY!

Crysis is a very poorly engineered game.. I'd say 1440x900 with High textures no AA or AF! or 1440x900 @ Medium with the AA and AF on

dang so what card would it take to get everying in full, 16xAA and 16xAF with every setting maxed out with no lag ? at atleast a 1680 res ?

Try no card..

Unless you spend some money for some LN2 and overclock the crap out of an HD 4870X2

lol thats pretty crazy, so if you where to pick a card, dont look at the price, would you say 4850 single, GTX 260, or 9800GTX ?

the best one, you got a lot of posts an im guessing you got loads of XP at this stuff so i want an answer from you
