Hi, i am planning to buy a new desktop and this is the configuration i have been given by my computer guy. please go through it and tell me if it sounds good :

Onboard 512 MB High-end Graphic Module

Onboard HDMI & Fire-Wire Port
19" VIEWSONIC LCD
250GB HARDDISK SATA with 7200rpm
2GB DDR2 RAM
AMD Phenom X3 Tri Core 8450 (2.1 GHz.) Processor
ON BOARD 10/100 MBPS LAN
SAMSUNG / LG DVD WRITER /

total cost of this is being quoted by him at about $580 (i live in india, the price here is 29000 rupees). is it worthwhile going for this, or are there some branded pc's i can buy within the similar price range?

You could go through Dell, or HP and get a prebuilt. You could also go through iBUYPOWER.com, and get something a little better for around the same price. It won't have the tri-core, but would have a 20.1" monitor, 320GB hard drive, and a video card, instead of integrated graphics.
