This is a peculiar problem--When using the restart function (start--turn off computer---restart) windows will not reload---I can get past the post from the bios but after that the screen goes blank and stays black----xp will not continue loading.

Now if I power off the pc using the power button---wait 10 seconds and then power on ---presto----xp loads as it should---what could be causing this peculiar problem----PS. Using the reset button on the pc while xp is loaded-- forcing a restart yields the same results as in paragraph 1.

I'm wondering if there is a hardware issue. Can anyone help?

My system:
ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe mbo (socket 939)
Athlon64 X2 3800+ processor
Nvidia 9500GT 512MB vid card
2 gig RAM
Win XP PRo sp2

Sure right, sounds pretty odd to me aswell.
I'd give a stab at the bootloader throwing up the problem here. But that dosen't explain why it's all fine normally but not in the circumstance you've described.

We'll see what the other guys come up with and go from there I think.

Cheers,

Sounds really weird. I would try a repair install of XP.

Like Tkey said it seems as if it isn't properly reading the boot files at load.
