I had a spare Maxtor 200gb IDE drive in my computer. I've since upgraded to multiple SATA drives. This hard drive was in functional condition when I pulled it from my computer.
I have an old computer sitting around, like a Socket A AMD 1.2ghz or something or another. I decided to use it and check the drives via BIOS test.
Well, this computer I know works. The hard drive was pulled from a working computer. When I turn the computer on with the said Maxtor drive plugged in, the computer shuts off immediately after 3 seconds. Then, it won't turn back on. In order to turn it back on I must unplug the 20pin connector from the PSU and reconnect it. Nothing else works.
I put this Maxtor drive in an external USB enclosure and Ubuntu won't pick up the drive. Yet, I know this external enclosure works fine due to the fact I have an 80gb IDE drive that runs perfectly in the same enclosure.
