ok so i buy this new Dell S2409W 24" monitor and its native res is 1920x1080 connected to a DVI cable which looks fantastic. but when i play some games that my vid card has trouble keeping up at that high resolution i lower it to a lower more stable resolution but i get black borders. ive tried everything to make them go away using ATI CCC using their image scaling option to stretch the image but it doesnt do it. any ideas?

ATI 2900TX HD is my card

Make sure you're using a widescreen resolution. Widescreen monitors have a setting to stretch or not stretch. Look in your monitor's options (using the buttons on the monitor, not on your PC) and you'll probably find an option to stretch to full screen, stretch to aspect ratio, or to just display it pixel-for-pixel. What you want sounds like stretch to full screen, and what is happening sounds like stretch to aspect ratio (where if you have fullscreen resolutions, it displays bars on the side so it doesn't distort the picture when stretching it).
