So I had a WD MyBook 500gb that recently died on me and I'm looking to replace it with a new internal hard drive + external enclosure. I was hoping to avoid using a USB connection, as I have other hardware that require USB ports. I've been reading around and doing some comparison shopping to see what might be best but I still have a few questions. First of all, I've been looking at this:

for the hard drive itself (the 32mb cache and the 5 year warranty especially, caught my eye)
and this:

for the enclosure.

I've thought about an enclosure with a firewire connection, and if anyone has any suggestions that would be great. What I'm thinking, however, is with a SATA to IDE converter such as this

I might be able to use the internal to external SATA bracket included with the external enclosure to set up and utilize the eSATA connection with this hard drive. Is this even possible and recommended? My internal connections are both IDE, so I wasn't sure but this seems logical. And looking to the future, the next computer I buy most likely will have an eSATA port.

I can provide any other information about my system if necessary to answer my uncertainty and, of course, any recommendations for better/more appropriate configurations are definitely welcome.

Thanks in advance.
