4870 or 4870x2 and DDR3 or DDR2?

I have a monitor with max resoulution 1680 x 1050? So just wanted to know at this resolution will there be any difference in performance of 4870 or 4870 x2 ?

Also wanted to know if DDR3 is worth buying over DDR2?

A 4870 would be just fine for that resolution even a 4850 would be good. Are you talking about literally two 4870s in crossfire? or the 4870X2 which is over $500? Either one would be waste for that resolution. Those are only needed for very large resolutions or dual monitors.

And DDR3 isn't totaly utilized yet, so it's better to go with DDR2 ram. Plus DDR2 is dirt cheap. Wait for DDR3 to see what it does when Nehalem comes out with the X58 boards.

Actually I came upon this benchmark here. In this the card fps are not good at even 1028 x 1024.
Also when you expect Nehalem to be out?

I'm not familiar with that Stalker game, might be tough to run at higher resolutions. Here is a better test of the game:

but u get higher fps if u do go dual GPU though. That is if u have the budget for it and willing to spend more.

a single 4870 1gb gives me 150-200 FPS multiplayer COD4 @ 1920 x 1200 8x AA 16 x AF everything else as high as possible and all CCC settings to max. thats aplenty. single player it hits the 200 FPS cap i set and sits there. 1680 x 1050 will get massacred by a single 4870.
