Hi! I recently got myself a new assembled PC. I bought an LG 18x DVD writer. But it does not detect dual layer DVDs. My friend too has the same DVD drive but the same DVDs work on his computer. I have Vista Ultimate 32-bit on my PC. Can anyone please help me?

Have you tried updating the firmware of the DVD drive? You will find firmware updates on the manufacturer's site.

What softgware are you using to burn? Not all software can use DL DVD's.

Are you trying to watch a movie or burn a DVD?

Sorry but saying that it isnt detecting the DL DVD's isnt helping. Are you watching a movie? Are you trying to burn? If you are watching a movie it could be that you dont have the codecs needed. If you are burning it could be that you dont have software that can do DL burning.

Could be that you need to find drivers.

the model no. is LG GSA-H54N. I have tried allsrts of disks ike mvies or even the ones that cm wit computer magazines like that of digit

If a new drive can read single layer DVDs but can't read DL DVDs then I'd consider it DOA. You might verify that the region code is set to 1 if that would make any difference.
