Calculating TDP (Thermal Design Power(Point))

How do you calculate approximate TDP based on the stock TDP of your CPU? I believe the stock TDP of a QX9770 is 136W?

I think this is how:

TDP = Stock TDP * (MHz / Stock MHz) * (voltage / stock voltage)^2

I think the above is correct.. although I hear there is a small margin of error.. If there is.. I hope it's really small.
 
You guys didn't report the triple posts?!

I could try to test that formula, based on my X2 4600+'s Specs
 
based on your equation there would have to be a large margin of error seeing as how the VID on chips are different by a significant margin from least to greatest VID. As much as .4+ in some cases.. based on that it would give you a quite large margin of error for it. So I don't think its quite right.


and you aren't really getting anywhere because it would just make more sense to calculate how to get TDP and then use that equation based on the different variables to calculate 'exact' tdp.
 
so my TDP is 120W for 4352mhz and 1.42V

I guess that could be right, although I thought it might be a bit lower...

also peter.cort not much you said makes sense as his equation calculates in stock voltage...which would be the stock VID!
