So i just got all my parts in for my build and awaiting my case. I have a Newegg.com - XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler - CPU Fans & Heatsinks and a Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops . I was also going to try and oc it as well.. I heard that lapping allows for better heat transfer and overall lower cpu temps, but with the HDT heatsink, should I still lap my cpu and if so what grades of sandpaper do you recommend and where can I find them.

Lapping is always recommended for maximum heat transfer. The grades I use are usually in the order of: 300 -> 800 -> 2000. The lower the number the more coarse the grit is. The 300 is to really grind the original surface off. Then the other 2 levels are just to gradually turn it into a smooth mirror finish. You can find those grades of sandpaper at pretty much any Home Depot or similar store or a small hobby shop you may have around your area.

only to enthusiast. I personally don't care. As long as it oc's well.

edit: Dont make two threads w/ the same question
