I was very much stuck on the 9800gx2 as well, but after further research the 4870 outperforms the 9800gx2 and is the same price... I would get the 4870, as it is newer technology and will be a better investment.

Well if you play at extreme res like 2560x1600 then the gtx280 is faster than the gx2. Even more so with AA/AF on. Actually according to Tomshardware even the gtx260 is faster at 2560x1600 with AA/AF. But at more common resolutions the gx2 is faster.

if you can afford a 30" screen to play at 2560x1600 then get the gtx280 or 4870 x2 XD
yeah my gx2 ran a bit hot, but no biggie. still performed like a champ.

but if you're going to get the gtx260 anyway just get the msi one. it might not have the same warranty evga does but shouldn't need it anyway :/ If it doesn't die by the time the RMA window closes then it probably wont.

Well i have 2 4870s and 2 gtx 260s. Hopefully this weekend i'll get the 260s installed and get a comparison done. But i know i'll never touch another sammich card from nvidia.

alright well i decided on the gtx 260. i got a good deal on the superclocked version of evga's gtx 260 for $265 before $40 MIR. So im pretty satisfied i think, although i will have to wait and see when it comes in tomorrow.

Im just gonna turn this conversation in the other direction and tell you to get the 4870.. It is better performer and investment.

for $50 i don't think its worth it. The performance difference in anything i might experience is either equal to the 4870 or in favor of the gtx 260. Plus nvidia has CUDA and i've been doing lots with it on my 8800gt for school and work.
