we have a knew symptom. it stays on when the 4 pin square connector is unplugged, obviously without i get no image on screen but that narrows it down.

Are you sure it's the correct 4 pin connector going to the cpu? Some ATX supplies have 2. One 12v only connector for the cpu and the other is an extension of the 20 pin power connector. It's not hard to mix them up.

yea sounds like the same problem, i have plugged the right power cable in, 2 yellow 2 black. im out of ideas now.

Agreed. You know it isn't the PS, and it won't even get to the POST screen, which would indicate to me either a bad board or bad cmos battery.
