i want to buy a bigger internal hard drive as mine is only 40gb but my question is how do i know if it will work with my pc? any help appreciated

Real simple. Open it up and look...

If you have a wide thin cable then it is IDE or EIDE. The top of the hard drive will also say IDE or EIDE and the RPM of the drive, as well as if it is ATA 100 or ATA 133.

If you have a thin black cable that has a connector in the shape of an L, then it is SATA. Again the top of the hard drive will tell you this.

After looking at your image you have an IDE drive running at 7200 RPM with a cable speed of 133.

Purchase a similar drive.
