Price/Component Check for a budget rig

by power i meant... the power requirements / temp. issues (heating etc)

See i was even considering the AMD 790GX with SB750. But then I had a hard time jusitfying the price/performance ratio between an X4 Phenom and a C2D (the latter being beating the former in performance/power consumption/heat).

Otherwise, AMD is capable of an awesome budget rig no doubt.

780g's power is really really low... but so is the X4500HD's but that's because neither are really powerful

I believe he mentioned what he was going to be doing at the start post, minor gaming IE adventure games.. do not have any idea what that implies, but he also said web surfing, watch movies, downloading pr0n, email etc.

my gaming includes titles with the following system requirements or better..

System requirements
Windows XP or Vista
1.5GHz processor minimum
512MB RAM or better
128 MB 3D-accelerated video card
Sound Card..



Games I like playing are Broken Sword, Syberia, The Longest journey. etc.

The main purpose of current onboard video is to decode HD movies and videos, thats why you see alot of AMD based HTPC's because of the 780/790 mobo's.

Apparently, the Intel X4500 is bad at it.... ive heard reviews of lots of jitering...

Now if I were to assemble an AMD system with an excellent onboard graphics option (to throw in a videocard) later on... Should I go for the 780G or the 790GX?

Which dual core amd processor would be best?
I am talking about their fastest dual core processor with lowest operating temperatures and power consumption.

The choices came up with on NewEgg were:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ with only 1MB of cache running at 2.9 Ghz and a 65 Watt power rating for $110.00


AMD Athlon 64 X2 5800 + also with 1 MB cache but 89 Watt power consumption running at 3.0 Ghz for $80.00


and then.. the AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Windsor running at 3.0GHz with 2MB of cache but also needs
125 Watts of power! for a good $93.00


I really dont understand why AMD couldnt put a 2MB cache on the 3.0 ghz running X2 5800+ !


All the three cpus have different power requirements.. which one should i go for without having to get a 500W psu?

Whats the performance difference between the two 3.0 ghz processors? the X2 6000+ with 2mb cache seems inviting but it also requires more power and could possibly run hotter too.

I am stuck between the two now. One has 2mb of cache, the other has less power requirement. Which one should i go for?

Well 6000+ is definitely not it, it sucks power and runs pretty hot...

I'd say neither of the 3... look at the 5400+ Black Edition

I would go with Intel. You cold get the E5200 instead of the E7200 to save some money and it would still be faster than all of the AMD cpu's you listed.

give me the best intel motherboard with an onboard graphics solution for a
C2D and enough room for a future add on graphics card (no sli or crossfire)

just make sure the motherboard can accomodate future processors..

Well Nehalem won't use the 775 Socket anymore..

So pretty much Socket 775 is coming to its end... but if you get a G45 and an e2180/e5200 you are pretty much set, just don't game until you get the cash for a good video card
